What to do if you don't get the job
If you don't get the job at the post office you might become depressed or think that it's over. That is not the case as you can re-apply to many other areas that are looking for a good postal worker. The only time when you can't do that is when you fail the background check. If you did bad on the test you can retake the test at another time. One thing that many applicants have trouble with is not getting a call back right away. There are a number of reasons why you might not get a call back from the post office right away.
You might think that it was your test score that stopped you from getting the job. You would be most likely correct unless you completely failed when you went to the interview. The post office hires based on test score which is why you see so many ex military workers there. The military bonus usually pushes them to the top where they will get hired first. I guess you could say that's something they deserve after serving our country.
Try not to get discouraged if you don't get the job right away. If this job is worth is to you then you will be able to wait for it. I know that money might be tight and you might have bills that are not getting paid, but at the minimum do not give up. When you finally get hired you will be happy that you didn't give up. Make sure that if your test score was too low you try to get in as much study time as possible before the next test. It's going to be easier this time around because you know what to expect.
Try to reach at least an 80 on your test so that you can be one of the first people hired next time they hire people. Working at the post office is a great opportunity and many applicants will be considered. Make sure that you do everything in your power to be one of the top applicants.
Remember that if they tell you that you don't qualify based on your background check or a failed drug screen you are probably never going to get hired. That may not be true in some cases, but for the most part that is a realistic truth in my opinion.
Working at the post office may change your life, maybe you have never made more than ten dollars an hour. The post office pay is great and if you eventually get lucky enough to get the benefits you are going to be in a good position for yourself and your family.
The postal exam serves a purpose in finding the type of people that will be good and accurate at that position. I believe that most people can do a good job on this exam. The postal 473 exam is more about focusing on the test than really what you know. You need to be able to move along quickly while being accurate and if you can do that you will probably score high. Then you will probably get another interview or if you haven't had one before you will get your first interview.

The Interview after the 473 postal exam
The postal exam 473 test is hard enough, but when it comes to the interview you really have to be a little nervous. Let me tell you that you have nothing to be nervous about. In fact, the less nervous you can become the better your chances are of getting this job.
Let's talk about the money, we all need the money, but we are there because we know this is a big company that has money to spend on employees. Okay that may not be true because the post office is in big debt, but America will need the post office for a long time to come so job security seems a fitting belief.
You have what it takes! believe me I've been in there and worked with people in a big plant. If you're a hard worker you will probably be one of the top workers in the place.
The interview is a series of questions you have heard before like "why do you want to work here?". Just make sure that you are prepared to answer the basic questions, and try not to talk their ear off. It's best to just stay calm, but polite. The primary focus is going to be on your test score anyways. So if you did good on your 473 postal exam you are in a good place.
Make sure you dress professional, look clean, and go in with an excellent attitude. They need hard workers because they have a job to do that will affect people on a daily basis. You have to let them know that you are serious about this job and that you want to work for them. Let them know that working for the government is an honor to you. Let them know that you are someone that can be counted on to get the job done. Let them know that the postal exam wasn't a fluke and you are someone that deserves to be hired.
This could be a great opportunity because now you are done with your postal 473 exam and you are ready to begin. All you need to do is ace this interview with a smile on your face and you can expect to be hired. Good Luck to you and I hope you get hired by the USPS.

Postal Job interview
When you go to your interview it's alright to be a little bit nervous that is common. The key thing for you to focus on is saying all the right things. If they ask you can you handle this? You say yes! Don't say yes if you can't but if you can make sure that you don't say....well, I think so. People who are in a position to hire at the post office are hiring for a living that's generally what they do! Actually I was hired by the post master who interviewed me the first time I was offered a job but the second time in a bigger city I was hired by a woman who was in charge of all hiring and interviews.
If you've gotten an interview that means you are being considered for a position and this is a big step. The interview is your chance to seal the deal or blow the whole thing. Some people go in there and they talk too much try to make good conversation but don't talk their ear off. You obviously did well on your 473 exam so you are a serious contender and you need to be positive of yourself.
You should be ready for questions like "Why do you want to work at the post office?" these are common place and also your best bet is to be open to any hours. If you go in there with a difficult schedule you might not be considered. This is all my opinion but I was offered two positions and I think that I have a good idea. My grandfather also was a union steward for many years so I've gotten some solid tips.
Remember to dress well and if they ask you about the postal 473 exam tell them about how you enjoyed it. I mean really it's not too hard a test I did enjoy it to an extent. Some things to remember when doing any interview anywhere is to make good but not uncomfortable eye contact as well as a business like handshake. If you don't know what that is take a look on youtube for guidelines.
You've made it this far so make sure that you get hired! Make sure that you take the interview very seriously and put every effort into showing that you care about this country and the post office.
