What to do if you don't get the job

If you don't get the job at the post office you might become depressed or think that it's over. That is not the case as you can re-apply to many other areas that are looking for a good postal worker. The only time when you can't do that is when you fail the background check. If you did bad on the test you can retake the test at another time. One thing that many applicants have trouble with is not getting a call back right away. There are a number of reasons why you might not get a call back from the post office right away.
You might think that it was your test score that stopped you from getting the job. You would be most likely correct unless you completely failed when you went to the interview. The post office hires based on test score which is why you see so many ex military workers there. The military bonus usually pushes them to the top where they will get hired first. I guess you could say that's something they deserve after serving our country.
Try not to get discouraged if you don't get the job right away. If this job is worth is to you then you will be able to wait for it. I know that money might be tight and you might have bills that are not getting paid, but at the minimum do not give up. When you finally get hired you will be happy that you didn't give up. Make sure that if your test score was too low you try to get in as much study time as possible before the next test. It's going to be easier this time around because you know what to expect.
Try to reach at least an 80 on your test so that you can be one of the first people hired next time they hire people. Working at the post office is a great opportunity and many applicants will be considered. Make sure that you do everything in your power to be one of the top applicants.
Remember that if they tell you that you don't qualify based on your background check or a failed drug screen you are probably never going to get hired. That may not be true in some cases, but for the most part that is a realistic truth in my opinion.
Working at the post office may change your life, maybe you have never made more than ten dollars an hour. The post office pay is great and if you eventually get lucky enough to get the benefits you are going to be in a good position for yourself and your family.
The postal exam serves a purpose in finding the type of people that will be good and accurate at that position. I believe that most people can do a good job on this exam. The postal 473 exam is more about focusing on the test than really what you know. You need to be able to move along quickly while being accurate and if you can do that you will probably score high. Then you will probably get another interview or if you haven't had one before you will get your first interview.

  1. Hello, I've recently heard of this job opportunity and have been researching a lot about it and you have been much more help than just basic information online. I'd like to take this time to thank you for your consideration upon the many people who are willing to try their best to practice the 473 exam as I begin my journey on pursuing this job. I have a question, I've been reading on the website that a high school diploma is not required to register and taking the test but will it hurt my chances of being hired? I'm 20 years old and right now I've hit a point in my life where I seem to be in a dead end job and hoping that I can reach for something higher for my future. I'd highly appreciate any advice or tips you can give me as I begin to look more into working in the U.S. Postal Service, thank you. Here is my email if you have any free time to help me out I will be eternally grateful. -- espinoza94626@gmail.com --

  2. Thanks, Chad, for covering this info. I wonder about my eligibility for jobs in locations remote from my own home. Could I test for jobs listed in Hawaii and California from NY, say, and then move nearer to the job site upon qualification?
