Postal Job interview

When you go to your interview it's alright to be a little bit nervous that is common. The key thing for you to focus on is saying all the right things. If they ask you can you handle this? You say yes! Don't say yes if you can't but if you can make sure that you don't say....well, I think so. People who are in a position to hire at the post office are hiring for a living that's generally what they do! Actually I was hired by the post master who interviewed me the first time I was offered a job but the second time in a bigger city I was hired by a woman who was in charge of all hiring and interviews.

If you've gotten an interview that means you are being considered for a position and this is a big step. The interview is your chance to seal the deal or blow the whole thing. Some people go in there and they talk too much try to make good conversation but don't talk their ear off. You obviously did well on your 473 exam so you are a serious contender and you need to be positive of yourself.

You should be ready for questions like "Why do you want to work at the post office?" these are common place and also your best bet is to be open to any hours. If you go in there with a difficult schedule you might not be considered. This is all my opinion but I was offered two positions and I think that I have a good idea. My grandfather also was a union steward for many years so I've gotten some solid tips.

Remember to dress well and if they ask you about the postal 473 exam tell them about how you enjoyed it. I mean really it's not too hard a test I did enjoy it to an extent. Some things to remember when doing any interview anywhere is to make good but not uncomfortable eye contact as well as a business like handshake. If you don't know what that is take a look on youtube for guidelines.

You've made it this far so make sure that you get hired! Make sure that you take the interview very seriously and put every effort into showing that you care about this country and the post office.

473 Postal Exam

When you prepare for the postal 473 exam you might be intimidated because you are probably very interested in getting hired. If you want to do your best make sure you know what to expect. We will be showing you most of what you will need to know.

The first section of the test you will be asked to compare 2 addresses. These address will be different or the same. If they are different you will be asked what is the difference in the 2 addresses? If the zip code is different you will answer that it is the difference. Maybe the address itself is different and so you will answer that as the difference. It is possible for both the address and the Zip code to be different and so you will answer that they are both different. Maybe nothing is different in the two addresses and so you will answer that they are the same. This section is timed! as well as multiple choice.

The main focus on the first section is too be speedy and accurate because you can fall behind rather easily in this section. You can also overlook differences very easily too so you want to be fully focused. After you complete this section you will be doing memorization they will tell you a number of different streets and address and what routes they go on. You will be asked to memorize them and then you will take a short practice test. After this short test you will be given another 5 minutes to memorize these routes again.
The best thing to do is keep on memorizing them and then start to ask yourself questions about them. This way you are working your brain and preparing for the upcoming section of the test. If you can memorize these simple routes fast enough the next section will be a breeze.
Here are some examples of what you might see 401-999 bond st = A 1000-1499 bond st = B 401-899 Maple st =C Not on a route =D.......      Example Question " Which route is 399 bond st on?" obviously this doesn't go on any of these routes so you would answer D. They will be wording it different but you understand the point.

Your primary goal is to keep focused on the test and try not to get distracted by other people in the room. Try not to be intimidated by the test because really it is not that hard! You can do it and be on your way to a new job at your local post office making good money!
